Breaking: Zcash (ZEC), NEAR, SHIB, & DOGE Perps Trading Go Live on Kalshi
Kalshi, the US-based prediction market platform, has expanded its perpetual futures trading to include Zcash (ZEC), Near Protocol (NEAR), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Dogecoin (DOGE). The contracts, branded as “American Perpetuals,” are regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and offer users a compliant way to trade these digital assets with leverage.
Kalshi filed for ZEC and NEAR perpetual futures with the CFTC on Tuesday. The platform offers 2x leverage on ZEC and 2.6x on NEAR. SHIB and DOGE contracts, previously filed alongside Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Solana (SOL), and other altcoins, are now live. Notably, approvals for Stellar (XLM), Polkadot (DOT), and Hedera (HBAR) remain pending.
The move follows Kalshi’s earlier filings for perpetuals on a wide range of cryptocurrencies. The platform now offers perpetual trading for Bitcoin and 12 altcoins, all CFTC-regulated and without expiration dates.
The approvals come amid ongoing legal challenges from CME Group, which has sued the CFTC and Chairman Mike Selig, alleging that these perpetual contracts should be classified as swaps. Meanwhile, the SEC and CFTC are seeking public comments to clarify definitions of derivatives products.
Market reaction has been mixed. ZEC price briefly jumped over 2% to $421 before paring gains; it currently trades at $410.66. NEAR price fell nearly 3% to $1.93, while DOGE and SHIB continued to decline amid a broader crypto market selloff triggered by macro factors such as US PCE inflation data and monthly options expiry.
The launch represents a notable step in bringing regulated crypto derivatives to US retail investors, though broader market conditions remain uncertain.
