Grayscale Sees 2 Paths out of Bitcoin Bear Market as Key Catalysts Near

Importance High

Grayscale Research has identified two potential pathways for Bitcoin to emerge from its current bear market, as the cryptocurrency trades more than 50% below its October peak near $125,000. In a note dated June 26, the firm outlined key catalysts that could determine whether Bitcoin is bottoming or heading lower.

According to Grayscale, the first path depends on Federal Reserve policy. Following President Trump’s selection of the more hawkish Kevin Warsh to lead the Fed, market expectations have shifted toward the possibility of further rate hikes. If the Fed refrains from additional tightening, that could alleviate pressure on risk assets like Bitcoin.

The second path hinges on regulatory progress, specifically the CLARITY Act in the U.S. Senate, as well as balance-sheet actions from Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy). Grayscale noted that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) recently approved the first perpetual futures products for U.S. markets, which could boost market structure. Additionally, stablecoin growth and tokenized assets are seen as signs of ongoing blockchain adoption beneath the short-term price weakness.

Despite these positives, several risks remain. Grayscale cited uncertainty over the CLARITY Act, Strategy’s leveraged balance sheet, and investor concerns about quantum-computing security. The firm also noted gold’s sharp pullback, suggesting Bitcoin’s decline reflects a broader repricing of assets tied to fiat debasement fears.

“Whether bitcoin’s price has reached its cyclical low point depends on upcoming catalysts, including Fed rate decisions and progress on the CLARITY Act in the US Senate,” the research note stated.

Grayscale’s base case assumes Senate progress on the CLARITY Act, no additional balance-sheet strain from Strategy, and no further Fed rate hikes. If these conditions hold, the firm believes Bitcoin may already be near its cycle bottom.

Long-term, Grayscale remains optimistic about institutional adoption, stablecoin usage, and tokenization trends. The firm concluded that the current bear market offers a compelling opportunity for long-term investors to position for structural growth in public blockchain technology.
