SBI Crypto Shuts Down Bitcoin Mining Pool, Directing Miners to Alternative Pools

Importance High

SBI Crypto is shutting down its Bitcoin mining pool, ending over five years of operation on July 31, 2026. The pool, which currently holds 20,412.11 PH/s (just over 2% of Bitcoin’s global hashrate), will stop accepting mining shares at 22:00 UTC on July 30, 2026. CEO Hiroaki Morita communicated the closure in a notice, emphasizing that all shares submitted after the cutoff will not count toward final payouts.

Launched in March 2021 as part of SBI Holdings’ digital asset expansion, the pool grew to rank between 10th and 11th largest by hashrate. Despite its closure, the company reassures that mining operations will continue normally until the cutoff date. Miners are urged to keep directing hashrate to the pool to ensure their earnings are included in final calculations. SBI Crypto recommends three alternative pools: Braiins, Luxor Pool, and Neopool, noting that some may offer special terms for transitioning miners, though no official endorsements are made.

The company has yet to release a full transition schedule, including details on final payout timing, API access, and web portal functionality. The reason for the closure remains undisclosed, but the move aligns with SBI Holdings’ broader strategy of reallocating resources toward other crypto initiatives, such as stablecoins and exchange infrastructure. A 2% hashrate exit does not threaten Bitcoin’s security, as miners have sufficient time to redirect their equipment to other pools.
