Coinbase Showcases Progress Toward All-in-One Financial Platform
Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) published a July 1 monthly recap detailing progress on its strategy to build a single platform covering all assets and markets. The exchange highlighted developments in tokenized stocks, derivatives, artificial intelligence, stablecoins, and on-chain infrastructure.
The tokenized stock offering involves 1:1-backed shares of U.S. companies with dividends and on-chain trading, though these instruments will not be available to U.S. persons. Coinbase emphasized that the tokens are not derivatives or IOUs. On the derivatives side, the exchange introduced pre-IPO perpetual contracts starting with SpaceX, later extending to OpenAI and Anthropic, along with stock options, crypto options via its Deribit integration, and expiration-free U.S. perpetuals.
Artificial intelligence plays a growing role. Coinbase Advisor, an SEC-registered AI-powered investment adviser, is being rolled out to Coinbase One subscribers. It supports portfolio analysis and automated tax-loss harvesting. The company is also enabling autonomous agents to execute trades, manage portfolios, and interact with on-chain apps through Base MCP and the x402 payments protocol.
Stablecoin infrastructure is a key component. Coinbase noted it is live in India with direct INR rails, became the official deployer of Hyperliquid’s USDC treasury wallet, and partnered with Ethena on over $5 billion in assets. A $4.4 billion USDC transfer to the Hyperliquid deployer was also cited. The stablecoin layer connects payments, custody, and settlement, with initiatives like ProShares’ IQMM money market ETF for stablecoin reserves and Open USD.
The platform now offers regulated access to global crypto derivatives markets for U.S. traders, including perpetual futures and options. A redesigned advanced trading interface and access to thousands of stocks and ETFs for U.S. traders further expand its reach. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated: ‘Coinbase is one of the most AI-enabled companies in the world.’ The challenge remains converting product breadth into durable usage, with availability varying by jurisdiction and some features still in development.
