Kresus Launches Crypto Inheritance Service for Secure Wealth Transfer
July 9, 2026 – SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
Kresus, the self-custody wallet designed to simplify digital asset ownership, has announced Kresus Inheritance. This service allows users to create a secure succession plan for their cryptocurrency holdings without sharing private keys or using complex recovery procedures.
Self-custody gives individuals full control over their digital assets, but supporting infrastructure for estate planning has lagged. Beneficiary designations, estate transfer mechanisms, recovery pathways, and long-term planning are largely missing. Traditional estate planning can be costly and complex, while seed phrases written down can be found, and keys shared early can be misused.
“Too much digital wealth has already been lost because there was no plan for what happens next,” said Trevor Traina, Founder and CEO of Kresus. “Self-custody shouldn’t mean your assets disappear if something happens to you. With Kresus Inheritance, we’re giving users a secure and affordable way to protect their legacy and ensure the wealth they’ve built can be passed on to the next generation.”
The service costs $99.99 per year and is built directly into the Kresus wallet. Users can designate a beneficiary who can access the portfolio only after a defined inactivity period has elapsed. Private keys are never shared during the transfer process. Users retain full control of their assets while active, and Kresus does not take custody. The succession process only triggers if the inactivity period lapses.
According to a Harris Poll study, an estimated 55 million U.S. adults, or 21% of the population, now own cryptocurrency. However, a Cremation Institute study found that 89% of crypto investors worry about what happens to their assets after death. Kresus Inheritance aims to address this by providing a built-in way to plan for digital assets. For example, a user holding $50,000 in bitcoin can designate a spouse or adult child as beneficiary, with no access until a verified succession event occurs.
This new feature builds on Kresus’s existing wallet and infrastructure business, which already serves millions of self-custodial wallet users through the Kresus Wallet, mini-app experiences, and enterprise solutions. It reflects Kresus’s focus on expanding the wallet’s role into a complete wealth management platform.
