Bitcoin Banking Adoption Hits 32% Average as Major Banks and Financial Institutions Integrate

Importance High

Bitcoin integration among the world’s biggest banks and financial institutions has reached an average of 32%, according to the latest index from Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy. Published on July 14, the report measures adoption across 25 of the largest players in banking and finance, focusing on tangible steps such as custody services, trading capabilities, and product offerings tied to Bitcoin.

Fidelity stands out with the highest integration score at 71%, underscoring its advanced approach compared to peers. Other major U.S. banks include BNY and Goldman Sachs, which scored 45% to 46%, while Citigroup, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley reached 43%. Asian banks such as SMBC and Royal Bank of Canada lagged at the bottom with just 13%.

The index assesses depth across four categories: trading and custody services, product offerings like spot ETFs, lending backed by digital assets, and executive-level support for blockchain solutions. Fidelity’s early start with Fidelity Digital Assets in 2018 and its full range of services, including its own spot Bitcoin ETF, contributed to its leading position.

Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor stated, ‘Investment in bitcoin by major banks is accelerating, but it’s still early: the overall index score is 32%.’ Industry observers note that this average signals growing comfort with Bitcoin as a mainstream asset, with banks moving beyond initial exploration into practical implementation.
