Trump’s $1.4B Crypto Income Draws Scrutiny as Senate Weighs CLARITY Act
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) requested on July 16, 2026 that President Donald Trump release a comprehensive financial disclosure covering his cryptocurrency earnings through July 15. The request arrives as the Senate debates the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act), legislation that could affect the value of Trump-linked crypto holdings.
Warren, ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, said the current disclosure, released June 30, 2026, is insufficient for lawmakers while considering the bill. Trump’s 2025 annual financial report showed approximately $1.4 billion in cryptocurrency-related income—more than double his total 2024 income—with crypto ventures representing the vast majority.
The disclosure outlined several Trump family entities. DT Marks Defi LLC holds a 30% ownership interest, with Coinbase accounts valued over $100 million and a 38.25% stake in WLF Holdco LLC, which owns World Liberty Financial, a crypto company Trump founded with his sons. DT Marks Defi received over $590 million in 2025 income. The family also holds an indirect interest in Stablecoin Holdco LLC, a stablecoin business.
Trump defended the earnings on July 2, stating, “Nothing illegal, there’s nothing wrong with it.” He said his crypto involvement predated his second term and that large institutions manage his investments.
The CLARITY Act, passed by the House in 2025, needs 60 votes in the Senate to overcome a filibuster, requiring Democratic support. Negotiations include ethics restrictions to prevent presidents and other officials from profiting from industries they regulate. This remains a key obstacle.
Warren’s request depends on voluntary release, as Trump’s next annual report is not due until May 2027. She argues Congress needs updated information before finalizing the legislation.
