Dormant Bitcoin Wallet Moves $383,000,000 After Eight Years of Inactivity

Importance High

A long-dormant Bitcoin (BTC) wallet has moved a massive sum after remaining inactive for eight years, according to blockchain analytics platform Arkham. The whale address originally received 5,908 BTC when prices hovered near $16,000 in 2017, making the stack worth $99.63 million at the time.

The holder maintained the position through Bitcoin’s volatile history, including the 2018 crash to around $3,000, the 2021 peak near $69,000, and the 2022 drop to $15,500, which briefly put the holding underwater. The wallet also stayed untouched after Bitcoin reached an all-time high of $126,000 in October 2025.

On Thursday, the address abruptly transferred its entire BTC trove—now valued at approximately $383 million—into a fresh wallet. No immediate sale was observed, as the funds were sent to an unmarked address rather than a cryptocurrency exchange. The move to a newer address format suggests possible custody updates or preparation for private transactions.

Such movements by large holders often signal strategic shifts without triggering immediate selling pressure on public markets. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $63,800, down more than 1% in the last 24 hours.
