Here's Why Bitcoin Dipped Below $64K Today
Bitcoin’s mid-week price rally that drove it to a monthly peak of $67,000 came to a halt as the asset dipped below $64,000 earlier today, erasing essentially all the gains it had recorded. Two primary reasons have been identified for this nosedive.
First, spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a notable reversal. After a seven-day inflow streak that attracted roughly $1 billion since last Tuesday—the longest such period since April—investors pulled out over $200 million worth of BTC on Thursday, coinciding with the initial retracement toward $65,000. On-chain data from today further revealed that BlackRock moved approximately 3,126 BTC (worth $203 million) from its IBIT Bitcoin ETF wallet to Coinbase Prime, a transfer pattern the firm typically uses when liquidating some of its ETF positions. The final outflow figures for the day will be confirmed tomorrow by data providers like SoSoValue, but the trend shift has created uncertainty.
Second, renewed tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump added pressure. Trump criticized the European Union for imposing penalties on major American companies such as Apple, Meta, and Google, and announced plans to initiate a 301 Investigation into what he called the practice of “ROBBING” American companies and taxpayers. He warned that the EU will “pay a very big price” and that a “substantial TARIFF” would be placed on the bloc at the earliest possible moment. Historically, such tariff threats have negatively impacted Bitcoin, including a sharp drop last April. The latest statement coincided with BTC’s retreat to just under $63,000.
