Nexo Says MiCAR Gives Clients a Clear Standard for Platform Trust

Importance High

Digital asset wealth platform Nexo has restructured its European Economic Area (EEA) operations to comply with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR). Instead of obtaining a direct MiCAR license, Nexo split its European client services across two regulated German partners: Tangany and DLT Finance.

Tangany, licensed under MiCAR, provides custody infrastructure with segregated digital asset storage. DLT Finance, authorized under both MiCAR and MiFID II, offers brokerage and execution services for digital assets and financial instruments. Following a testing phase, all Nexo services in the EEA remain fully active without disruptions.

Yasen Yankov, chief product officer at Nexo, stated: “MiCAR is the most consequential regulatory framework digital assets have seen in Europe, and Nexo has been preparing for a long time. When it came to choosing DLT Finance and Tangany, the standard was nonnegotiable — our partners are best-in-class.”

Eleonor Genova, head of communications at Nexo, emphasized that regulatory clarity provides a benchmark for the industry. “Clear rules are good for the industry’s credibility, and by extension for clients. A framework like MiCAR gives institutions and everyday clients a defined standard to measure a platform against,” she told Bitcoin.com News.

Genova acknowledged debate over whether strict regulation might temporarily push innovation offshore, but argued MiCAR acts as an operating baseline. “Companies that build their operating models around the requirements are positioned to operate with confidence across the EEA,” she added.

Nexo expects European crypto users to consolidate around a few regulated EEA platforms in 2026, shifting toward platforms that prioritize verified compliance and asset protection. Martin Kreitmair, CEO of Tangany, called the partnership “a strong signal of what’s possible in the post-MiCAR landscape.” Alan Kennedy, senior partnerships manager at DLT Finance, noted that “the strongest digital asset platforms are built on infrastructure that clients do not have to think about.”

Ranking among the largest centralized crypto lenders globally, Nexo’s compliance framework solidifies its presence in Europe, positioning it to shape the next phase of regulated digital asset wealth management.
