Strategy Completes Third Bitcoin Sale of 2026, Keeps 842,138 BTC – Bitcoin News
Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) has completed its third bitcoin sale of 2026, selling 1,638 BTC between July 27 and August 2 for approximately $104.7 million. The company received an average sale price of $63,957 per bitcoin. Despite the sale, Strategy remains one of the largest bitcoin holders, with a treasury of 842,138 BTC as of August 2.
Executive Chairman Michael Saylor announced that the sale helped increase Strategy’s U.S. dollar reserve by $250 million to $4 billion. The company also repurchased $81 million of its STRC preferred shares. According to the company, the move extended the duration of its dollar reserve by 57 days to roughly 2.3 years, while improving STRC’s bitcoin credit metrics by 5 basis points.
The proceeds from the bitcoin sale were split: approximately $52.4 million funded dividends on its preferred stock, and $52.3 million supported repurchases of STRC shares. In addition, Strategy generated $290.6 million through sales of 3,011,361 shares of its Class A common stock. Of that, $250 million went into the USD reserve, nearly $29 million toward additional STRC repurchases, with the remainder added to its cash balance.
During the reporting period, Strategy repurchased 912,143 STRC shares for approximately $81.2 million. After these repurchases, nearly $894 million remains available under the preferred stock repurchase authorization, while $1 billion remains authorized for common stock repurchases.
Strategy’s aggregate bitcoin holdings cost approximately $63.5 billion, with an average acquisition cost of $75,419 per bitcoin. The company’s $4 billion USD reserve is intended to help fund preferred stock dividends and interest payments on outstanding debt.
This third sale in 2026 marks a notable shift from Strategy’s long-standing practice of exclusively accumulating bitcoin. However, the sale represents only a small fraction of its total holdings. Investors will monitor whether Strategy resumes bitcoin purchases or continues prioritizing balance sheet management in future treasury updates.
